John Alfred Witty
was born 1941 and was a volunteer for the RSPB for 20 years.
He was very well liked across all volunteers and members of staff. He interacted with members of the public well and made Grandstand viewing platform his own. He was not a character that you could forget. He had a great working knowledge of all birds and spoke to members of the public with great enthusiasm.
John loved being part of the team and even when covid struck he was chasing information.
John was moved to a nursing home not long after being diagnosed with MND. That diagnosis did not dampen his interest in what was happening at RSPB Bempton Cliffs.
When away from the cliffs John wrote articles for his churches Parish Magazine on wildlife in his local area.
John is still missed by his colleagues at Bempton Cliffs and the many stories of his still circulate.
John passed away in November 2020. His funeral service was held under covid restrictions and the attendance at the church reflected that, although there was representation of the RSPB Bempton Cliffs.
